I’m blogging sooner than I thought I’d be blogging. But I couldn’t help but share my review on the movie, AVATAR. I went to a press screening last night and was seriously blown away. It’s hard for me to think back to all of the movies I saw/didn’t see to say if it was THE best movie of 2009, but it’s definitely in that category of the best. Writer-director, James Cameron did an amazing job and says, “AVATAR is the most challenging film I’ve ever made.” It was beautifully done from the story line, to the animation and beauty and the messages it brought forth. And there were GREAT actors of course…it IS a James Cameron movie! Zoë Saldana (LOVE HER!), Laz Alonso (newcomer…you remember him from Stomp The Yard), CCH Pounder, Giovanni Ribisi, Michelle Rodriguez (Blue Crush and Fast & Furious movies), Sigourney Weaver, and the main actor SUPER SEXY newcomer, Sam Worthington (Terminator).

There are three things to discuss about this movie: the beauty, the messages, and the story line. (more…)

I know I’ve been gone from doing videos and blog posts for a few months now, but I’ve been given a few great opportunities that take up a lot of my time, and leaves me no time for journal writing, let alone blogging.

Like right now I need to be working! LOL I just wanted to give you all updates. So right now I’m working in public relations of course and, I’m also doing some freelance work…AND….another project in the works that you will greatly enjoy in the coming weeks. You all will be the first to know.  I probably won’t be doing anymore hair videos, BUT please show LOVE and subscribe to my other channel  http://www.youtube.com/SpoiledLittleLAGirls. I’ll be featured on this one rather frequently. FYI: my other channel Jrkemp86 will still remain up because I talk about a lot of stuff people find helpful for natural hair. (more…)

Michel Berandi_etUXOR_MOCA

I’m excited because tomorrow evening is my first LA Fashion Week show. I was thrilled when I got the confirmation in my inbox for the  Spring 2010 Michel Berandi show. Not too familiar with his work, since I’d been so consumed with NY Fashion Week over the years, but I cant wait to cover the show and finally experience Fashion Week LA. It’s also very different because Fashion Week here goes for the whole month. Odd, right? Anywho, I’ll keep you all updated.

This reminded me of smeared frosting. loves it!

I wanted to write this post last week, but never got around to it. Exactly a week ago, I visited the MOCA and usually I’m not that huge a fan on contemporary art because I feel it’s a bunch of wanna be artists trying too hard to create art. But I actually had a great time and was immensely inspired, especially by the Robert Frank photo collection. Check out the photos I took from my phone after the jump. They really don’t do them justice, but o well. Cheers! (more…)

theshackcover-thumb-485x800I’ve been meaning to write this post for so long. I finished the book last week and wanted to do it the next day, but time got away from me. This novel will seriously change your life and the way you see, interact, and relate with God. It pretty much answers all the questions you’ve had about being a Christian, or believing in God. Believers and non-believers alike should read it. It’s seriously amazing and gripping. It’s also a #1 New York Times Bestseller. Every other page, I was underlining and stamping post-its…that’s how good it is. It will prompt you to re-evaluate your life.

God talking to the main character:

“Or we could talk about all the limiting influences in your life that actively work against your freedom. Your family genetic heritage, your specific DNA, your metabolic uniqueness, the quantum stuff that is going on at a subatomic level where only I am the always-present observer. Or the intrusion of  your soul’s sickness that inhibits and binds you, or the social influences around you, or the habits that have created synaptic bonds and pathways in your bran. And then there’s advertising, propaganda, and paradigms. Inside that confluence of multifaceted inhibitors,”

She said, sighing, “What is freedom really?”

“Only I can set your free., Mackenzie, but freedom can never be forced.”

I saw the doc, The September Issue the day it came out here in LA at the Santa Monica promenade. It was really a glorious time. Sitting there with my girly, founder of Pink Panties eating Lollipop Cheesecake…yes it was soooo good. I tweeted about it this weekend. Those who follow me saw the picture…it was adorable! So anywho, I’m going to give my review of the movie. I thought it was very insightful and candid. In my opinion, Grace Coddington, Vogue’s Fashion Editor stole the movie. Hands down. I feel like Anna Wintour’s face looks so distorted and twisted because she harbors such anger and bitterness. It will do that to you, you know. It’s like let it go. All in all I loved that it showed the veterans, and how everything is done at Vogue. It reminded me a lot of what I learned in my Magazine Journalism class in college. It was a great film, but it could have easily been on A&E. (more after the jump) (more…)

image001You guys know I love cheap chic and designer collaborations. I’ve always loved Anna Sui. Her personal style is unchanging and her pieces are always edgy and eclectic mixing Upper East Side style and Downtown urban edge. I will be the first person at Target September 13 to get some of the goods. Prices range from $19.99 to $149.99 .

I really love the lyrics to Jill Scott’s “My Love,” and had to post it. Ladies you know when you’re love is the ish. So many women have superficial feelings and love to give. And these men fall right into the game, but can’t seem to appreciate the authentic. It’s an interesting concept. It had been a while since I heard this song, but it’s still hot.  Ladies and gentlemen, What are you thoughts on “My Love” ? Lyrics and video after the jump. (more…)
